Spring Hunter Trial - CANCELLED
Sat 3rd May 2008 - 9am

CANCELLED ****** HUNTER TRIAL 3RD MAY 2008 ****** CANCELLED

Hello everyone  I am afraid that due to the horrendous overnight rain and the very poor forecast on the run up to the weekend we have been left with no option but to cancel the hunter trial.  Parts of the course are now under water and the going has changed from good to poor in the majority of other areas.  I realise you will all be very disappointed as we had rescheduled it once already.

By way of consolation we will role your entries through to the UK Chasers event on the 1st of June thereby giving you a guaranteed slot in what is usually an oversubscribed competition.  If you are unfamiliar with this type of event please follow the link here for full details of the format.

Please note that due to UK Chaser national guidelines regarding entry fees there is a price differential for non UK Chasers members which would result in an additional £5 per class being due for payment on the day.  UK Chasers members please note that you must bring your membership card with you to secure your discounted entry rate.

Although not part of the UK Chasers competition we will still run the nanny and novice class under exactly the same format as described in the hunter trial information and there will be no requirement for participants to undertake the short additional disciplines which are required in the other classes unless they wish to do so.

As before please use this form to let us know if you wish to WITHDRAW your entry otherwise it will be automatically carried forward to the 1st of June.

The Hunter Trial this spring will begin at approximately 9 am with all competitor start times being published on the website from 6pm the preceding Friday. The following classes will be run:

Minimus. Fence heights up to approximately 1’6” over a 1.5 mile course, which may incorporate combination fences and a water splash (sloping bank walk in and out no jumping required) along with natural brush and some more solid obstacles. Subject to entry levels the class may be split into adult and child competitors with rosettes and small prizes to 6th place in both. Entry Fee £20. Please state age of rider on entry form.

Nanny and Novice. This is a new class and will only run depending on the level of interest. It has been introduced at the request of previous competitors as a means of introducing very young children to a hunter trial and because of this it is not a competitive event. All child riders will receive a rosette and a small chocolate prize regardless of faults or failure to complete. It will be based on the minimus course, which the child rider must jump, the accompanying adult may choose from the equivalent minimus, novice or open obstacle. The class size will be limited and we recommend entering as soon as possible to secure a place. Entry Fee £20 per combination.

Junior Novice/ Senior Novice. These 2 classes will be run over the same course of approximately 2 miles with fences up to 2’6”. They will include a water complex with jump, solid and brush fences and at least one combination. Junior Novice riders must be 16 years and under on the day of the event, there is no restriction on horse/pony size. Rosettes and small prizes to 6th place in both classes. Entry Fee £20. Please state the age of the rider on the entry form.

Pairs. This will be run over the novice course, details above, pairs may be any combination of ages and horse or pony size. Rosettes and small prizes to 6th place.  Entry Fee £25.

Open. The open class will include fences up to 3’3” and will be approximately 2.5 miles long, it will definitely incorporate a water complex and ditches along with solid single and combination fences, some brush and narrow more demanding obstacles. There is no age restriction. Rosettes and small prizes to 6th place. Entry Fee £20.

Bib Hire and Paramedic contribution for all competitors £3 – hire fee of £1 returnable on receipt of the bib. The whole course is timed with the winner being decided by ridden penalties and accuracy to the optimum time. This varies by class and is not published; however the course lengths and maximum and minimum metres per minute are, leaving you to calculate the most likely optimum speed.

Riders aged 16 and under MUST wear an approved body protector and hat, both securely fastened. Adult riders must wear a securely fastened hat of the appropriate safety level and we recommend the use of a body protector. Competitors must AT ALL TIMES obey the directions of the fence judges and officials, failure to do so will result in them being asked to leave the course and may compromise future entries.

There will be a duty paramedic and on site catering facilities available in addition to a course photographer from who prints can be ordered.

Please note that we do not take entries on the day and our events last year were oversubscribed which resulted in us closing entries a week before the competition date. Please enter as early as possible using the downloadable form from the website!
